Brief History of the Project

  • PCMU is functional since 1986 under the administrative control of Planning & Development Department with overall policy guidance by Chairman P&D Board for coordination & monitoring of selected foreign funded development projects in water/irrigation sector.

  • Acting Bridge between multiple implementing agencies involved in projects execution, concerned departments including irrigation, agriculture, planning & development and project Donor agency including World Bank

  • Effective & Efficient projects monitoring mechanism as third party;

  • Oversee progress towards change management process introduced under Irrigation & Agriculture reforms in Sindh;

  • Provide policy formulation and implementation support and assistance in agriculture and irrigation sectors;

  • Safeguards monitoring in both environment and social aspects;

  • Follow-up complaint handling mechanism/citizen feedback;

  • Progress Review on regular monthly/quarterly basis with overall guidance and support of the Project Steering Committee(s);

  • Ensure compliance of the actions on the decisions taken at various project forums level and etc.

  • Completed following three mega development projects well in time with quality and positive results acknowledged by World Bank (Lead Donor).
  • Karachi Special Development Program (KSDP) 1986-1997;
  • National Drainage Program (NDP) – 1998-2007;
  • Sindh Water Sector Improvement Project (WSIP) – 2007-2018
  • Played role in recently completed Sindh Agricultural Growth Project (SAGP) with major activity of formulation of Sindh Agriculture Policy approved in 2018
